Scaling Wordpress (and really any PHP app) on the Microsoft Stack

There’s two ways to scale a web site - vertically on a single box or then horizontally through farms and/or cloud solutions. In the past 2-3 years, PHP on IIS/Windows/the rest of the Microsoft stack has had a huge kick start with PHP support and is capable of getting great vertical scale. That said, you can always pull a little more horse power out of it with the proper attention and techniques and scale a little bigger. Then moving to a farm or cloud solution is the next step. In this session we’ll dig deep into scaling on the Microsoft stack with PHP in general and Wordpress in specific. This fast paced deep dive technical talk includes digging into executing PHP on FastCGI, op code and object caching through great PECL libraries such as WinCache 1.1, tuning static file caching and then over to horizontal scaling by running PHP on Windows Azure, and leveraging Windows Azure Storage and the Windows Azure Content Delivery Network for massive scale.
