Gantt charts, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP)… formal Project Management can take years of study and require costly certification exams, but still not guarantee success. At the same time, a lack of vision and planning is almost a sure way to fail. This presentation will highlight proven approaches to project management that work in the academic setting using the work of a UNC-Chapel Hill media production team as an example. Formal techniques adapted to the needs of creative, academically based IT projects can give you a productive project team, a happy client, and, a successful project result.
