During this presentation, we are going to look at the new features that were introduced in PHP 7.4.

Join me to have a look at how the type system is strengthened with typed properties and co- and contra-variance of methods, what changes to operator precedence are, and which new features, such as pre-loading classes, are going to be introduced.

At the end you will have a good understand about all the new and exciting features that are going to be part of the recent PHP 7.4 release.

After we have looked at what you can already use, we'll have a preview of PHP 8, with its JIT, Union Types and other new features.

Thanks!

Nice talker, enlightening talk. Thanks

A lot of nice stuff there, even regarding it's remote!

Speaks clear english and his presentating is very comprehensive.
The cam view was sometime in front of the examples. So the code was sometimes not completely visible. I don't know if that was someting at my end our Dericks, but I noticed it.
And the video was about a second behind the audio. It was not bad, but again, I noticed it.
Learned a lot about PHP 8 and I'm excited.
Answering question was surprisingly smooth.
Good job.

Great walk-through over new features of PHP 8, I liked the examples you've picked. Thanks for your time!

A clear presentation of new features coming in PHP 8. The sheets were nicely made and were easy to follow.

Excellent talk, and a nice summing up of exciting new features, covering a lot without making it feel rushed. You might want to check your code examples in your slides though. :D

Nice talk, very informative. The emojis in the class names are a nice touch :)

If you were not listening to Derick, you're an amateur ;)

Useful and handy features introduced in php8, much appreciated increments. The talk was well structured and timed, questions easily answered, fun and easy going persona. Keep up the good work!

Well prepared presentation. Great info

Martijn Luub at 10:49 on 26 Jun 2020

Thnx! Very enlightening talk.

Nice talk, Derick really knows his stuff from the top of his head.
As a little tip, the code examples in the slide could use some minor corrections.
Did not stop me giving five thumbs up.

Bas at 10:54 on 26 Jun 2020

Thanks for the heads up. I think the Q&A during the talk was not the best idea. Your opinion of the JIT engine bothered me a bit, I rather heard a more promo talk there. But generally a nice talk.

Timo Schinkel at 11:41 on 26 Jun 2020

Great insights into new and upcoming features. Also insightful answers to the questions posted.

Some improvements I would consider:
- As you were mixing up features introduced in PHP 7.4 and PHP 8.0 maybe adding a simple label in the corner of your slides to indicate the feature your discussing was introduced in PHP 7.4 or will be introduced in PHP 8.0
- Answering the questions *during* slides took some flow out of the talk. Maybe "finish" the slide (or section) and answer questions afterwards.

Great talk, thanks!

I've been really excited to see all the news added in PHP 7.4 and 8.0, it seems like there will be more to learn than I thought.

Thanks Derick for sharing all those news with us, it was a great session.

Mike Lehan at 11:53 on 26 Jun 2020

Great talk covering pretty much everything new in 7.4 and 8. I think with so much material to cover it was hard to fit in the time, possibly leaving out a few of the smaller features and giving more worked examples of where Attributes, Constructor promotion and even the JIT (e.g. where it has an actual positive improvement) would have been good. Continual use of emojis in class names is, of course, wonderful.

Good stuff Derick!

Excellent talk, very informative! Nice examples, Now I'm more exited about the upcoming features in PHP 8.

Geert Eltink at 16:06 on 26 Jun 2020

I love the examples. Great talk about PHP 8 and really usefull.

Koen Cornelis at 16:13 on 26 Jun 2020

Probably the best "upcoming features in PHP x" i've ever seen. Learned something on each slide, looking forward to PHP 8 :-)

Roald at 16:18 on 26 Jun 2020

Great talk, looks like a lot of great things are heading our way!

Only suggestion I would have is to visually show on the slides which version of PHP each feature was introduced in / for.

Still a sad panda about generics not being in 8 :(, one day, hopefully!

Great talk
