Great talk on principles of functional programming and how it can apply to ask code in all languages!

It would jav helped to have a real example of doing something in a non-functional way versus the functional equivalent. I'm still left wondering why? Why is doing everything functionally better than just running trace/alert statements to check values for the variables involved in a certain section of code.
