PHP BBQ 2009

Basically more or less a sales talk (as Stefan remarks) than any technical insights on how Flex and PHP work together. It was impressive to see how they managed to use Flex and PHP in an advanced way to create a pretty extensive and slick user interface, but I would've liked the presentation to be a bit more technical (read: code, architecture) than what was provided.

Very clear talk on advanced usage of Zend_Paginator. Made me think why something which appears to be on the View side of MVC is actually often part of the domain logic. I'd still be hesitant to make my model dependant on a Zend Framework component, but I could definitely see by example where Zend_Paginator could be usefull.

Good talk, but way too short to really dive into advanced regex usage. The things she mentioned were some interesting, lesser known facts and by her exuberant presentation style, she always manages to get everyone's attention. Maybe extend it to a full regex talk in the future?

I must say, knowing that Harrie never presented a full talk for a 'real' audience before, I was curious to see how he would do. Harrie did very well and without any signs of nervousness, he managed to explain a topic which is not very well known amongst PHP developers. By means of clear examples, he got his point across on why you should use Flex and how to integrate it with PHP.

Interesting talk on databinding, although I got the feeling that the concept of databinding (as Ghica explained it) could be implemented in a more modern way. I would like to have seen databinding applied with (or compared to) other frameworks than Backbase. The presentation itself was very well brought by someone clearly knowing the topic.

There was plenty of drinks and food available, nice weather (apart from the occasional rain shower we got) and the atmosphere was great, so what else do you want? A successful BBQ, I'd say!

Goed werk Jurrien, je praatje was zonder meer goed om te horen. Leuk ook hoe je exact beantwoorde waar ik net vragen over wilde gaan stellen (wat doe je dan met Oracle? etc).

Erg bijzonder hoe je in zo weinig tijd en zonder slides toch zo veel informatie kon overbrengen. Regex is gaaf, /me gaat z'n regexes zeker nog eens nalopen.

Geen slides maar effectief gebruik van de flipover. Misschien wel een betere manierom dingen bij te brengen omdat er beter opgelet moet worden op de combinatie van gesproken en geschreven woord. Regex blijft magie, maar bedankt voor de korte uitleg van wat principes.

Erg technisch maar zeer boeiend verhaal over de mogelijkheden van het bouwen van datagrids door middel van backbase en databinding. Ik moet me hier toch een keer wat meer in gaan verdiepen.
