Transitioning from being a student and moving up through the ranks can be a daunting task. Graduating students are frequently hired into entry level positions hoping to advance quickly into managerial roles. This session will provide a narrative of challenges newly hired managers may face as they work their way up through the ranks. I will seek to address questions specifically regarding moving into a supervisory role. Specifically, how I successfully navigated the perceptions of being too “youthful” to be in a position of authority, issues of supervision as it pertains to now supervising those who were once my peers, developing successful working relationships with tenured employees, and building effective work relationships with employees I have already worked with previously but now supervise.
