T1.03 - Building Relationships with IT: How to Get Things Done When You Speak Different Languages

More of an overview of the projects the presenter completed and less about tips on working with IT. (only 5 minutes about tips and 40 about her projects) Not what I expected from description.

useful at the end when talking about communication tips, but too many descriptions of personal experiences which although interesting, not very useful.

I thought the information was very practical, and reinforced by providing personal experiences by application. Good presentation.

A very engaging presenter, but session not quite what I expected from the description. The final 10-15 minutes should have been expanded to be the central focus of the session.

I was rather disappointed, since the presentation really didn't cover what it said it was going to cover in the title and the description. It primarily consisted of the presenter discussing the projects she had worked on in detail. Precious lityle wad said about actually building relationships with IT.

When the presenter did get around to discussing the topic at hand, though, it was mostly in terms of why IT needs to listen to admins. It's pretty ironic that, given the emphasis on communication throughout the presentation, there was not any credence given to why IT might have good reasons for going what they do and when they do it. There was even a slide with the phrase "Techies of IT don't get it," which seemed to me to sum up this one sided approach - it wasn't about both sides coming together, but rather making IT understand and do what you want.

The speaker did do a good job of talking with the audience (although the slides were far too wordy), but it would have been a much better presentation if it had: a) covered the material it said it was going to and b) not been so condescending to the IT side of the discussion.
