The most important thing you will ever do as a developer is protect the people in your data. But beyond headlines, scaremongering, and scandals, what is privacy, and how do we develop for it? Before we can protect people from the harms that can result from the misuses of their data, we need to understand our own differing cultural and legal approaches to privacy, and then establish a common methodology to evaluate our work.

This talk will provide a overview of different views and approaches to privacy which exist within our globalised industry and even within our own projects. Then, it will provide attendees with a practical development toolkit which draws on best practice privacy standards, current and upcoming legal regulations, and robust development frameworks.

Attendees will be inspired to integrate a healthy, proactive, and accountable approach to privacy into everything they do.

Good talk, passionately delivered making it enjoyable to watch. The dry humour also contributed to the enjoyment factor.

Talk of the conference for me. Very well delivered, discussing an important subject in a way that kept the audience engaged throughout. Thanks Heather!

Excellent talk from Heather, plenty of food for thought and practical things to change in our day-to-day processes.

Really enjoyed this talk. On paper it sounds like something obvious, but Heather really opened our eyes to how serious privacy and user protection really are. Heather has clearly invested herself in trying to ensure that, as developers, we take this serious and ensure that we bake Privacy by Design into everything we do.

Even though Heather was not well, she absolutely knocked this talk out of the park.

An interesting and informative talk, with a loud and clear call to action! Heather delivered it flawlessly despite the cold, and she managed to make a potentially boring and dry subject sound interesting and relevant. Bits of humour were great and you couldn't for a second doubt her passion. Kept me engaged and I really enjoyed it - thanks Heather!

I have to admit hat I came because that was the only track.
But it turned out that your talk was amazing!
Thank you

An outstanding talk on an important subject, presented by someone who clearly knows their subject inside out. The humour sprinkled through what could have been quite a dry topic made it really compelling and enjoyable.

Definitely a stand-out session, and a perfect choice as a closing keynote.

2nd time i have seen you talk (previous was PHP Yorkshire). A fantastic talk and a good choice for closing keynote.

Although I had seen you speak about privacy and GDPR before there was a fair difference in the content.

I've already rated this talk, and kept reading more of Heather's work up until the small hours last night - just wanted to add a link to her slides from saturday - they are at https://webdevlaw.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/scotlandphp.pdf
