Functional programming: Academic curiosity or industry's secret weapon?

I would have liked this as a regular talk, but it didn't feel right for a keynote. Also the code examples felt pretty rushed and I couldn't see the major advantage in them (actually, they were not that much shorter since the imperative implementation).
