This session teaches you how to detect and debug PHP scripts with the free open source tool Xdebug, which is an extension to PHP. The first part will quickly show how to get started with Xdebug. The second part of the session will cover detecting problems in your scripts by showing how Xdebug provides debugging aides in the form of stack/function traces, dumps of variables, modified PHP functions. In the last part I will show the remote debugger capabilities of Xdebug where you can: set breakpoints on functions, methods and file/line combinations and evaluating error messages. On top of this you will also see how you can use Xdebug's profiler to find bottlenecks in your applications. I will be focusing on the least known features of Xdebug.

Really good talk, easy to understand and delivered with good live usage examples. Went at a good pace and as a result I'm going to make a lot more effort to use Xdebug in future.
I've used XDebug for a while now for profiling. Following this talk I've already got Netbeans setup for remote debugging and am trying out some of the other settings covered. One of the more immediately useful talks of the conference to me; things I can try on Monday to make my life easier. Derek has a slightly rambling presentation style, but I always enjoy his talks, not least because you are guaranteed a live demo or two.
I've been using xdebug at work and not really knowing what was going on, so the talk was great to bridge my gap. Didn't realise there were extensions to chrome and opera so shall be installing them :)
