Flex is touted as a framework for rapid application development targeting the Flash player. Declarative graphics via FXG is a recent addition to the framework, although FXG is used more as a graphic interchange format. Degrafa is a robust, open-source framework for Declarative graphics in Flex. Degrafa may be used for anything from drawing complex shapes in MXML to skinning DataGrids. What is generally less known about Degrafa is the computational geometry tools available to developers.

This talk provides an overview of the computational geometry capability in Degrafa. Examples illustrate how geometry primitives ranging from Bezier curves to complex splines are declared in MXML and manipulated via a modest amount of script. Very little Flex experience is needed to understand the examples. Both Flex and non-Flex developers will be able to add numerous cool geometry buzzwords to their vocabulary and see how Flash can be used for something other than video and annoying banner ads.
