What are you talking about? Document classification in PHP.

Ian Barber (Jun 13, 2009)
Talk at Dutch PHP Conference 2009 (English - UK)

Rating: 5 of 5

Despite the dream of a fully semantic web, most information and conversation happening online today is unstructured and uncategorised. This talk discusses how PHP and open source tools can be used to group and classify data for a whole host of applications, including information retrieval, data mining and more.

Topics covered include:

* Building text classifiers in PHP
* Bayian classification and other statistical techniques
* Using open source tools such as Xapian and Lucene

Very nice talk, formlas went a bit quick for me but the gist is entirely clear. Also explains how Marek van der Jagt was traced back to being an alias for Arnon Grunberg (interesting issue some years ago in Dutch Literature)!

Simply excellent, nice talking speed, just enough code examples and just enough detail to keep me focused. Good job!

Just a great talk! Tons of information, not presented so much as to be an authorative source but rather to first provide a brief overview, and then motivate you to go out and get into it.

A little outside the standard PHP conference fare but definitely useful to a lot of developers, which is what makes it so great.

Like I told you live, that was really good. To share with the others, I think there was a good tradeoff between the notions presented and the practical PHP approach to those. Definitely in my DPC09 TOP 5.

Great talk, terrific delivery. I wish these topics were expressed with the same clarity the first time I studied them. Well done, professor! :-)

Very good talk on a pretty big subject area. Excellent presentation and delivery. Like Joe said above the maths side of it went a bit to quick for me also. I think that was more to do with the fact they ran out of coffee in the foyer and I didn't get my full caffeine quota before hand.

*heads over to slideshare to recap ;-)
