PRESENTATION: "All You Jokers" by Paul Jones

One definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results." In this talk, Paul will discuss how organizations keep treating developers poorly, especially by demanding overtime, and why it is crazy for developers to expect their organizations to change of their own volition. Paul will show how you can change the way your organization treats you, to your own benefit and (hopefully) the benefit of the organization.

About Paul: Paul is an internationally recognized PHP expert who has worked as everything from junior developer to VP of Engineering in all kinds of organizations (corporate, military, non-profit, educational, medical, and others). Paul's latest open-source project is the Aura project for PHP (http://auraphp.github.com). Among his other accomplishments, Paul is the lead developer of the Solar Framework (http://solarphp.com), and the creator of the Savant template system (http://phpsavant.com). He has authored a series of authoritative benchmarks (https://github.com/pmjones/php-framework-benchmarks) on dynamic framework performance (http://paul-m-jones.com/?p=421), and was a founding contributor to the Zend Framework (http://framework.zend.com) (the DB, DB_Table, and View components). In a previous career, Paul was an intelligence operations specialist for the US Air Force, and enjoys putting .308 holes in targets at 400 yards.
