Dockerize your unit tests for faster feedback
Talk by Michelangelo van Dam (50 minutes)

Ever got the message "Fatal error: Out of memory" when running your unit tests? Or do you have to wait for more than 5 minutes for all of your unit tests to complete? We're using Docker to mitigate these and other issues. In this session I will show you how we have split up a single testsuite of 3K+ tests into manageable unit modules which are executed by Docker micro instances in parallel. And with this set up we test our application on the current PHP version, but it also allows us to test against a new major PHP version the moment it is released or even is available in beta.

20:00 Code review beyond code style (50 minutes)

Reviewing code can feel like a secondary task. Discussing code can be easy though, if you leave out syntax details. Following a couple of guide lines for pull requests can make code reviewing much easier. Some code style rules can drastically reduce the mental overhead needed to understand code changes. Furthermore this talk will give some general guidelines on how to give feedback on PRs as a peer developer or coworker. These rules are not to keep for yourself, share them with your peers and your life will get easier.
