Eine in die Jahre gekommene Webanwendung. Sie verdient immer noch Geld für uns, aber es wird immer schwieriger, sie zu warten. Feature-Wünsche der Kunden häufen sich, der Bug-Tracker läuft über, aber die Abarbeitung wird immer langsamer und fehleranfälliger. Jetzt einen Rewrite zu starten, das würden viele Entwickler nun gerne tun. Nur wahrscheinlich wird dieser niemals fertig.
In diesem Workshop werden wir uns eine alte php-Codebasis vornehmen. Durch Einbinden von Symfony und weiteren Open-Source-Bibliotheken werden wir schrittweise alte Anwendungsteile ablösen und unsere Legacy-Codebasis auf diesem Weg schrittweise in eine moderne Symfony-Anwendung umbauen.

Very interesting workshop on modernizing legacy apps. Alexander first showed the theoretic approach and then we went into a real ugly php4 forum software. He provided a git to review the needed parts step by step. Will definitivly use this workshops insights into my coming migration projects.
I think I've never seen 4.4 PHP code until this workshop. And I'm happy about that. And yes, you can migrate it to PHP 7.2 and thats great. Useful hints on how to migrate old code and how Symfony can help one.
I personally would like to have more time to try it out for myself. It would also be nice if the environment were set up for the coding session without spending too much time during the workshop. But that doesn't minimize the good content.
Good talk, besides the problems with the vm and the wlan ;-) more time for the actual migration and less time for the vm setup and this talk is a hit - thumbs up!
