PHP has come a long way since it’s days as a handful of Perl scripts. These days it powers some of the most powerful applications on the web.
Let’s take some time to look at where we are, and where things seem to be headed. We’ll discuss some new tricks the elePHPant has learned, and consider some we hope it will learn soon.
Oh, and I’ll tell ElePHPant jokes. Here’s one to get you started.
Q: Why did the elephant cross the road?
A: Chicken's day off.

I really appreciated the focus on community and I loved the elephant puns/jokes and how the title of the talk played into the organization of the talk as well.
Really loved this. Especially the dad jokes (yes they qualified). The observations were spot on and I 100% agree. The whole thing was engaging and my mind didn’t wander at all (which is saying a lot at the end of a busy conference ;) )
Fantastic way to end the event, and great illustrations to explain both where PHP has been and where it's going in the future. The jokes weren't half bad, either.
Loved the energy.
Unnecessary pep talk; it was boring as hell. Sound system made it worse. I was looking around to see people's reactions, and there were quite a few that were about to fall asleep.
Being mindful of our past always helps us be aware of our future. This was the theme for the entire overall conference and the bookending of this talk (Cal's talk on the future of PHP) with Samantha's talk on History of PHP (at the beginning of the conference) really grounded the conference as a whole.
Cal has a charismatic demeanor that really drives audience engagement. Adding snippets of his own history with PHP and becoming involved with the community had quite a few heads nodding in agreement. The elePHPant is pointed directly at the future, indeed!
It was a nice and energetic way to conclude the conference.
