Teamwork is easy to dismiss as a groan-worthy buzzword, but when you’re racing across the brutal North Pacific, thousands of miles from land, teamwork is all you’ve got. Dysfunctional team dynamics will strangle communication, putting your goals and your team in jeopardy. In this session, you’ll discover the most important lessons learned on a punishing, 6000-mile race across the ocean: how to put the team before the individual, how to trust and be trusted by your teammates, and how maneuvering through a 100mph squall is a lot like maneuvering through a project meeting.

Stephanie used her experiences gained during an oceanic sailing expedition to discuss key issues in identifying obstacles to team project success. Her talk was among the highlights of the conference despite having no "technical" content as most of the conference presentations.
Fascinating story about sailing across the Pacific Ocean, and great summary of the "5 Dysfunctions of a team" book. I had taken a brief course on that course before, and still learned new tips from Stephanie -- thank you!

The slides with their delightful self-deprecating humor ensure complete credibility for the message. It's a brilliant concept to begin with, using the adventure of a lifetime to introduce and teach team-building skills.
I hope you keep the "Easter egg" in the slide deck. It was perfect, being in the section about accountability (i.e., mistakes) immediately after reefing and handing the sails.
