as a freelancer i know pretty much everything ben talked about and still felt like the talk will help me improve.

It would have been nice to have heard this talk 4 years ago before I took the plunge! All good advice. I agree that more people could do this than perhaps think they can and I for one won't be returning to being employed! The benefits are far outweigh any negatives for me.

Great talk. As always, lots of energy and good delivery!

I've freelanced before myself and I could find myself in a lot of what you said. It's not always easy. I think you did great by sharing your experiences. Will definitely share the video with people I know who run their own business.

While not exactly the kind of talk that I expected to see at Laracon, Ben does provide some good guidance for people freelancing. Having been a freelancer myself, I didn't really hear anything new but it did reaffirm a few valid points. Ben's delivery was also engaging and funny at times, which is always a plus. My only criticism is that for me personally the talk title promised a subject far more engaging that it actually ended up being.

entertaining, but too much private/personal stuff, sorry. also some useful information. but i was missing the general subject...

Appreciated the insights from personal experience. Good reminders about things to keep in mind as a freelancer.

Really nice talk from Ben. Interesting and funny.

Topic was a bit left field, and unfortunately content and delivery was only passable. Sorry Ben :(

As a manager I'm not happy paying my employees learning how to freelance. Nothing relevant for us wanting to learn laravel. We do not want to pay for this.

As an employer sending people to a conference I would prefer not to have a full hour with the benefits of freelancing. Kind of counterproductive...

Not sure what to make of this talk. It just didn't sit well with me - maybe because i didn't find his freelancing "journey" all that inspiring.

Great talk, really enjoyed it.

Ben's talk was brief (even in a full hour it took) for the matters he covered. But he really gave true gold for those who are approaching to freelancing. As freelancer as I am by 5 years now, I really share his teachings.

As a freelancer already it's nice to hear other people's journeys and how they got to where they are.
I recognised most of the advice except for contracts, one thing I have never bothered with!

Brilliant talk, I'm not a freelancer, but as part of a small design agency it was totally applicable. Very good talk, very engaging.

Nice (and fun) to see how other people started freelancing or started their own business. I enjoyed this talk! But... maybe I would've liked to see more in-depth information, like real cases or something like that. However, I think it totally depends on the audience, which appeared to be mixed (employed/freelance/dev/non-dev/etc.). I liked it anyway!

At some point expected advise/information about co-sourcing, great talk!

Our company paid good money to send us to a conference where the second talk was about tips on how to start up with freelancing. Not very interesting for us, but hey, there were no alternative sessions to go to. Didn't know what to expect when we went in, I would recommend the organizer put some descriptions in the programme. Good delivery by the speaker, but the Elasticsearch topic from last year was a lot more interesting.

Would've preferred to hear something a bit more technical as I'm not working as a freelancer or running my own company. Good talk and probably useful for everybody running their own business :)

As a Freelancer I fully agree with your Tipps!

I think Ben gave a solid, technically sound talk - good slides, good presentation, well organized, and clearly articulated. I'm just not sure this was the right talk for this conference - we know that virtually everyone there is a developer and interested in development topics, but not everyone wants to start freelancing - but that's not on him.
