Programming as a profession doesn’t have a very long history– only 70 years– but the history we do have is very rich! Let’s dig into the murky origins of symbolic languages and discover how objects and functions were born. We’ll learn how a revolutionary changed the way we manage data and why JavaScript and XML are more closely related than you ever imagined! Let’s meet some of the brilliant, sometimes ornery, and always fascinating characters that have gotten us where we are now.

What can I say. After 8 conferences, over 100 talks, this was the most touching, genuine and generally brilliant talk I've been fortunate enough to see.

Stupendous!
I've seen this presentation before. This time it was better. We evoked more than history. We showed how it is important to what we do today. We saw the more important part, and in fact why this was correctly scheduled as the climactic keynote: Ourselves as a community. Samantha reminded us what we have been, what we are, and what we can be. Thank you.

Great talk. I enjoyed learning about the history behind modern programming languages. It was fun to hear about those engineering pioneers. The tribute to the current community was great and motivating as well. Well done!
This was a good talk about some of the instrumental founders of different languages, and how technology / programming / coding have transpired from then to now, including the current community of coders and developers.
I expected a good history nerd talk, but the segue into community was inspired.
