Microservices is challenging the existing monolithic paradigm and is set to turn the world of web development on its head. Promising greater reliability, redundancy, throughput and innumerable other benefits, with companies like Uber and Netflix embracing this new way to build apps, there are questions that need answering.
- What is the Microservices architecture?
- How do you build an entire application on it?
- What are the service providers like out there?
- How do you manage a team using Microservices?
- What are the pros and cons of this new architecture?
With experience over the last year experimenting and building apps and teams building micro services, Gareth will attempt to answer the questions.

Microservices, along with Progressive Web Applications and Decoupling are all on the cards for the future, so this talk was interesting as it served to discuss one of the most common difficulties most people will face - and that is the transition from legacy systems/platforms to a newer, and smarter, way of doing things.
I enjoyed Gareth's talk as it was based on a real world scenario and he guided us quite well through the transition from a monolithic and antiquated system, to one that scales exceptionally well, is far easier to maintain, suffers far less from normal downtime issues, is cost effective, and overall more efficient to run.
Exciting times ahead for developers!

This talk was great for covering what a company should consider when transitioning from a monolithic architecture to a microservices one (which my employer is doing at this moment in time). Everything was well explained and it was nice to see how one entity went about doing it, and the benefits they saw. The only thing I would have liked is possibly some more explanations about how things were swapped over, what the transition was like etc. But on the whole, an enjoyable and informative talk none the less.
We would like to see more of these topics which you can immediately go and apply in the work place. Gareth did a very good job he was very clear and straight to point.
As a small business owner and sometimes freelancer, depending on the need of the market at the time, this talk definitely opened my eyes to the copious amounts of time I could be saving with Micro-services. Now I have time to shop for shoes and automate some of my processes? Lottery much? Hell-yeah. Thanks Gareth! Clearly delivered for both advanced and entry level users in one room. Ba Da Bing!
Very informative and insightful talk. I liked the idea of how microservices can solve the hiring problems because companies are not tight to a specific skill-set since microservices are language independent.
