Open Source is one of the most powerful human concepts that has come out of the computer revolution. It is one of the key drivers of innovation to this day, despite being a core concept of computing back in the days of when large room-sized computers roamed the land. PHP was born out of the concept and ideals of open source software and is one of the most prevalent languages still in regular use. Why is that? What is so important about Open Source Software, PHP, and how does it affect you as a developer? Let me tell you a story…

Very unrelated. Not very interesting. Would have liked to see something more php centric
A passionate overview of open source software and by extension PHP. Exactly the sort of thing you want from an opening keynote.
Great talk
Excellent history lesson. Well presented, and I thought it gave a great backdrop for why we do PHP.
I always find keynotes a bit generalist but it set the scene for PHP Conference and the open source message is inspiring. The history of Open Source may be interesting to younger developers, but having been using PHP since 1995 and Gnu tools since 1990 there wasn't much for me here.
Really hard to rate - I thought it was an interesting talk about Open Source history and had some great points about how we got where we are.
However, from the title I was expecting some detail about how/why PHP is more Open Source than its contemporaries and we didn't really get there so it felt a bit unsatisfying. It might be as simple as my expectations being out of line.
Great history lesson but wish it was more PHP specific.
Chris is a really good speaker, but unfortunately the title of the talk and the talks content didn't align.
The history of Open Source was really good, but I don't believe that PHP is "the last true open source language" and the talk did nothing to convince me otherwise.
Great presentation - kept the talk engaging. I didn’t quite buy-in to PHP being the last open source language, and would have preferred more PHP-specific stuff than just the history. But overall a good keynote and open to the conference!
Typical wonderful talk from Chris that explains how and why the PHP Community is special and where the basis for what makes this community so unique.
Gives some nice insight into how the open source world evolved.
As someone who only recently started programming it was really interesting to hear about the history of open source. I wish it focused a bit more on PHP, rather than open source as a whole. But still a really interesting talk
While I thought Chris a good keynoter, the content excellent and the talk well delivered, I would have preferred more content about its relevance to PHP.
Great insight about open-source and why open-source was the original idea and it change to licences and piracy and not the other way around
quite vague, all communication should be free, what does all communication even mean? not here nor there talk
