Talk comments

This talk really codified a lot of the thoughts I've been having about writing code lately. Really good to hear another take on it.

I've been playing with Silex and this talk answered a lot of questions I had about how to organize a Silex app. I was particularly interested in the controller providers.

Really enjoyed your talk. Thank you!

I'm a complete beginner not only to PHP, but also computer programing in general, so a lot of this went over my head, but I did enjoy the
facetious joking. Also, I had this stuck in my head for the rest of the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYodWEKCuGg

Even though this was in the foundations track Joel jumped straight into some more advanced topics, assuming basic information about git, command line, and general version control. Which actually was great for me (and a few of my colleagues), who have basic understanding of git, command line, and general version control. I'm not sure how many other attendees this profile fits.

The flow examples, links to the branching models, and more obscure git commands were all really cool to see and explained very well. Only suggestion I'd make is from a PM point of view - it would have been helpful to see a bit more on how the deployments are checked and rated from a front-end POV, not just a repo handling view.

It was refreshing to have minimalist slides and a lot of discussion. It was great to get audience feedback.

It would have been nice, since it's the foundations track, to have a bit more review of what a framework is. What roles specifically does it fill? How do they help? Why bother with them? What is it like to work with one?

More background on Composer would have been nice as well.

Thanks for presenting!

Of course, not having your own laptop or environment is a huge factor. The presentation itself was a bit weak (slides and information), though the code examples were nice (especially for a beginner track). If Alex could have been a bit more focused/familiar on showing the code examples, even with the technology working against him, I would have rated this 4/5. Unfortunately, he was rattled (understandably so), and that carried through every slide and point he discussed.

Very enthusiastic and engaging talk. Enjoyed the code examples to back up points (and the pretty pictures).

I like that this talk built on your last talk. I wish the slides were made available already so that I could follow along -- sometimes the slides are hard to read from the back of the room because of people in the way or print being smallish to read from where I am. I hope you will also make your code samples available somewhere as well.
