Pretty much what I expect from Rasmus, good info, bit of humour, interesting defence of some of PHP's perceived flaws. Ended with an interesting look at the future for 7.4, more cool stuff ahead!
Really interesting tools demo'ed Will be playing with these over the weekend.
Great talk. Nice throwback to when we "old people" were kids. Back in the day we didn't have the internet. Also nice to see the growth of PHP. I'm looking forward to 7.4! Nice going.
Interesting talk. Great tools demoed.
Interesting overview of the 25 years of php, and a nice recap of the new features in the latest and coming versions of php.
Really enjoyed the talk and the humour of not taking himself or PHP overly serious while explaining that PHP is running a big portion of the world wide web! And some interesting updates on newest features and upcoming features.
I've seen Rasmus speak several times but I think this was the talk I've most enjoyed so far. Very nice combination of stories from the past and looking ahead at the future.
Interesting talk. Good to get some background in the language we use and love and to see a glimpse of the future
So much fun to hear the true history of PHP, It felt like looking at your own baby pictures..
I was missing some energy in the way of talking.
First time ever I saw a talk of the father of PHP. It was really enjoyable. And the future looks exciting ;)
It's good to hear how PHP started. There was not a lot in this talk that I knew beforehand
I enjoyed it.
Wonderful history lesson on something that I'm using on a near-daily basis! And hearing it from someone that couldn't possibly be closer involved than Rasmus is great. Absolutely a keynote worthy of a 10 year anniversery edition of the conference.
Oh, and I'm totally going to look into FFI! I believe I was looking for a way of talking to a C library some time ago, but didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of actually writing an extension.
Seeing the comments, I think I had incorrect expectations of the talk. I was hoping for a more general insight into the history of PHP. First half of the talk was great, funny and informing. Second part of the talk was more a "here's what's new in 7.3 and is coming in 7.4". Stuff I either already knew or was easy enough to figure out.
This talk was amazing! It was inspiring, and funny, and nostalgia tripping. There was so many things I got away from it and I absolutely loved the CO2 savings calculations!! :D
Nice blend of history and the future delivered in a light-hearted and amusing way.
Good talk with quite a few different subjects (history , 7.3 & 7.4 , some tooling).
The 7.3 and 7.4 part was still fun to follow even I was aware of most of it.
The CO2 part felt a bit rushed/glossed over. This is a big and valid point and I feel you didn't give it enough time or maybe even passion. But still an excellent move to mention it. I hope it inspired more people to share their solutions.
Great to learn the hidden details of the language you work with.
Great info, especially phpspy and the really cool features coming in php 7.4 to try to make us use C :p
Overall, nice paced presentation with the content clearly brought
Great talk. Funny CO2 calculations!
