PHPBenelux meeting November 28 2012 Mechelen

It's November, and winter is knocking on our door. But don't despair as we're happy to announce our November meeting on Wednesday, November 28 2012. This time we're meeting at the Syntra AB Campus Mechelen, one of the many training locations Syntra AB has. Amongst their long list of training courses, they do have several PHP training courses as well. We're happy they've decided to host the venue for this evening.

We have 2 new speakers for you this session, sharing their knowledge for the first time. Even though they're new at speaking, they have years of experience on the topics they will present to you.



Stijn Janssen (@stijnj) talks about "[removed] a true language" where he will share his experiences developing professional applications using javascript.

When talking about JavaScript, most people think about it as a scripting language used to hack en do small improvements on a project. We're now seeing that the language is more used as any other major programming language like PHP or ruby. In this talk I will try to walk you trough how we went from using a bunch of jQuery plugins to a more solid (and testable) object-oriented structure and how we use it in real projects.

Stijn is a front-end developer. He spents most of his time as a Web Architect at Inventis where he works on projects for Pukkelpop, Belisol, Visit Ostend, ... Most of his spare time is consumed by tasting beer in combination with experimenting new web-related technologies and attending conferences or user group meetings.

Erik Snoeijs (@esnoeijs) talks about "Imagick, image manipulation in php" where he will discuss the options to manipulate pictures using Imagick. He has been a member of PHPBenelux since the day we started. He has done several jobs as web developer before he started working for himself at Consult2.
