The tech industry has undergone significant changes in recent years, including an increase in remote collaboration, the emergence of new AI tools, and waves of economic uncertainty. While it’s an exciting time, these disruptions have also led to feelings of fear, isolation, overwhelm, and burnout in developer communities.
How are we supposed to keep up? How do we embrace change while preserving what truly matters?
Code doesn’t care how much we change it, but humans can struggle with perpetual change. Thankfully, we can harness our human skills of curiosity, creativity, and compassion to navigate change effectively. We can use these skills to bolster our resilience, connect with supportive communities, and help ensure that we’re not just responding to change but also contributing to positive change in our industry and world.

Solid and engaging talk about how to embrace change and use even negative changes as growth opportunities.
This was a great way to start off PHPTek. Being thoughtful about embracing change is such an important topic and she nailed it. I learned today that I'm not a robot. ^_^
Really enjoyed this talk! As someone with a non-traditional / non-technical background and who's new to the PHP space, it was really cool to see a talk that highlighted the soft skills and the value that people with a variety of backgrounds can bring to this industry :)
Many people don't take into consideration the human element of programming. This is a great talk that has you pay attention to how change affects humans.
Good talk about the non-technical aspect of technical work. While technical skills are important, soft skills are often overlooked in software companies. Highlighted the importance of change and processing the change whether large or small.
Early in the talk, I was concerned it was too general and things I've heard before: that was until I realized that April summed up in 45min what it's taken me months of therapy to internalize. Change is a part of life and can be disruptive, but it is possible to cope (and even thrive) when we take a step back and really reflect.
Good keynote about problems developers encounter. Good topics and subjects covered. Delivery was great and clear.
Great keynote. Tech conferences focus so much on the "hard" skills. I love these sorts of "soft" skill talks that talk about all of the other things that go into being a software developer. Every part of what we do involves other fleshy meat sacks, and keeping in mind that they have feelings is really important.
Good presentation
This was a wonderful keynote. If we can adopt and promote such mindsets it can only be a benefit to all.
Awesome talk thank you so much for presenting.
Stellar content and a great reminder to embrace the unavoidable change we all cope with in our field.
Good talk that hits some really important points for some of the more difficult parts of this career.
Loved that the conference started off this way.
Excellent talk. Hit very close to home for me. Thank you.
The variety of topics touched on at a high level was a great survey of "human" issues related to software development. Perfect fit for beginning of a conference. Could have been tied together more to a theme or outline but that could have detracted from the survey nature of the talk.
