A very interesting keynote on an especially important matter. It's really nice that this acted as an introduction to this year's Laracon. Obviously, you're not going to become empathic just by listening to Matt's talk or even just by attempting to, but it's a great first step. I do feel a lot of our field is marred by people just blindingly waging whatever holy war and/or not being able to tame their egos.
Matt: was that the "#1 Best-Seller" on amazon for portable horns? Sounded like it isn't. ;-)
no doubt matt is a great presenter. the topic is interesting. would have loved to see even more a link to software development and empathy towards the client/user. more practical stories.
The subject choice of the keynote was refreshing - a great way to start the conference. I was surprised that you didn't mention "compassion" after "sympathy" and "empathy"!

Great talk although it was very theoretical. You did a perfect job in presenting this important topic.I guess it is not easy to talk an hour about empathy, but I am glad you could and did!
It's easy to get frustrated by a client's views and requests. Putting yourself in the position of the client is not easy, but a skill that can be learned if you're in the 98% group of people that Matt mentioned. Never thought about this aspect in this context. Eye-opening talk and perfect opener for laracon!

I really liked your non-technical talk. I think you could perfectly do this talk without any slides. Very inspiring and made me think about how I interact with my coworkers.
Wow, Matt is a really great and 'natural' speaker. I was impressed about how good the slides were seamlessly integrated in his talk. Also a very relevant topic with a useful message! Hope that the listeners will reflect their (online) behavior and think about this talk sometimes.
Such a great opener for this conference. Even though you see yourself as a jerk, I think most people still see you as a happy woodpecker in a lumber yard.
You balanced the talk very well, just enough jokes and anecdotes to keep it interesting and entertaining till the end; letting us feel: we want more! Your humoristic and very human style (you are one of us!) of talking, really put this talk to the next level. It let the message come across stronger.
Inspirational talk which can really make a difference: I hope people will work on this, because it will help them feel happier too! Changing the world, starts with yourself!

Hell of a kickoff talk
Very inspiring talk, I agree that the world would be a much better place if everyone took your advice to heart.
A really strong talk on an important topic. It suffered terribly from a lack of pictures of Matt's kid, but was otherwise a solid choice.
In a longer format, it might benefit from a practical exercise or two on being empathetic.
General speaker stuff: good slides, good speaking, appropriate amount of movement, no excess filler words.
Good job.
