At some point in my career I decided I wanted to quit software development and do an MBA. For a stroke of luck, I failed the admission test and I kept developing software. It was early 2010, and I did not know Node.js existed, and the impact it would have on my life.
I wanted to speak at conferences, and I was terrible at it.
Then, I was lucky to find a job that allowed me time to develop Open Source libraries. I was lucky that someone noticed one, and I went speaking at NodeConf.eu 2013.
Now I travel the world as a consultant and conference speaker, and I maintain close to 200 OSS libraries. Open Source can change your life too, because there is no such thing as luck.

Interesting excursus on Matteo's life in open source, a bit more focused on the community rather then on himself would have been better, I think :)
More community content and some real life problems with OS is what was missing here for me
The talk was really inspirational and entertaining but focusing more on the community and less on speaker's feats and failures could go a long way. Nevertheless, it answered a lot of questions I had about open-source and I understand how it could motivate me and the others to contribute more.
Thanks for you effort, but I didn't like the 20 minutes of "who I am". I didn't see the point of the whole talk.
inspiring for persons who already did it, not for others. I can read your CV when I want...
this was a bit "out of topic" to the conference, as was addressing personal aspects into the world of entering into IT as developers. Some way it was a cool talk that I will suggest to who is starting, and such a way I can find myself

The kind of talk that set the hype in me: is thanks to people like Matteo that I push myself to my limits and set the boundaries every day a little bit upper.
