Great talk. It's amazing to see how our industry solved a lot a problems before most of us were even born yet. Still we are struggling and trying to solve them again and again.
Really well structured and executed talk. I really enjoyed the IoT part and this graph about the bandwidth used by DDoS was jaw dropping.
Maybe some slides could have been less loaded in term of text, or maybe using something to make the block of text appear one after each other could help the audience even more focus on the subject at hand.
Anyway, you were really able to convey the meaning with simplicity and professionalism, while creating a bond with the audience.
Good job!
I liked the point you made about communication. It's often an underestimated topic in our job.
But I would have like to hear even more about your real own experience, and mostly your failures, and all the things you would have done differently now that you have done this journey.
However, the structure was pretty clear, as well as the description of the progression from individual contributor to tech leader.
Every CEO and CTO should watch this!
Thanks everyone for attending. I've put the slides up on https://speakerdeck.com/aboks/of-representation-and-interpretation-a-unified-theory-dutch-php-conference-2019. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out!
This is the kind of talk that change the way you look at very specific (and seemingly independent) topics by giving you a better, easier and more elegant point of view than the way you previously looked at these subjects.
I guess that the advantage of unified theories ;)
Good job Arnout!
Brilliant speaker. Brilliant subject. Very well designed and very clear slides and a good message, if you will.
I couldn’t really appreciate the 100% live coding and it looked very unprepared. There was no clear direction in the talk. Even though it was interactive I couldn’t help but feel a tad disappointed in that I didn’t learn anything new in the domain of refactoring.
- Clear
- To the point
- Knowledgable
You can clearly tell Rob has been doing this for a while. Even though he’s strongly opinionated towards a certain methodology, it clearly shows its “the right way to go”.
Incredibly brave for sharing your story and thank you for enabling the discussion about mental health!
