The talk spent a little too much time early on on definitions, but the last half had a great payoff. I really enjoyed the personal experiences section.

He did a good job convincing me that the new features were not very useful. Particularly I think it was poor judgment to say "If you are using these features, you are probably doing something wrong." It doesn't inspire excitement about the new features and shows a somewhat pessimistic view on them.
The examples were very difficult to understand but that isn't his fault. It's the nature of the topic, however, I suggest that the code be shown in a better color scheme because the dim projector lighting didn't lend itself well to the color on black.
Lastly, He explained that he doesn't use some of the slides because he does like reading off them. I feel that if he would have shown these slides, better notes could have been taken and the message would have been clearer. The truth is, one doesn't have to "read" the slides if they are shown.
Overall, it was an average talk.

It was a great pep talk. He has a great way to motivate people and is very charismatic. I enjoyed it lots and tweeted a few quotes that will stick with me for a while.
Very clear and concise. The message was awesome and well spoken. He makes it seem so easy but reminds you how complicated it will be.
There is a reason I yelled out in the Q&A that this talk was awesome.

Also loved the idea/practice of putting each class into a separate file based on the class name.
I'm totally guilty of putting multiple classes into one file. No more.

Nice talk. Derick is a little bit hard to understand, particularly when he gets excited, however, it is that excitement that gets you into his talk! This talk was very specific to the OpenStreetMap technology, but makes me want to join him in mapping parties. It was well spoken and had some really great examples to get your feet wet with. Wasn't so technical that one couldn't follow with novice php/js skills.
