Brilliant talk, thank you!
My only suggestion would be perhaps mentioning some of the problems counting glyphs, e.g. mb_strlen("??") will result in 2 (at-least as of PHP 7). In Swift 4, however, this should result in 1 as I think it uses Unicode 9 rules. What's a good tactic for accurately counting characters when emojis are involved?
A great talk. It's really interesting to learn a bit more about what goes on under the hood and the kinds of testing and research that goes on.
Every conference should have some kind of internals talk.
There is some buzz about functional programming around me at the moment and I am still awaiting to have a play around with it. The talk helped a little more and I understand composition a bit more but I feel like the examples were not the best. With something like this that is a complete paradigm shift I would personally would have enjoyed a real world example that was closer to the web. That said, it was enjoyable to watch and well presented.
A good talk. I didn't quite grasp the grid game example at first. Maybe a little more time explaining that would have helped?
A great talk that was easy to follow and taught me a lot of things about HTTP and API design. Thank you for a fantastic talk!
I did win an elephant, so 5 stars from me!
What a fantastic way to open the last of a fantastic conference. The talk was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to and I learn't about how the beginnings of the internet.
I could have listened to Samantha for hours about the history of our industry.
I'm afraid I found this talk way too dark and not quite the mood I'd hoped to be walking away from the conference in. Yes, it was thought provoking but too much time spent talking about dark things. At the end the room felt too reflective and almost sombre. "That's it, you can all leave now". Yes, I can absolutely see the points that this talk was making and there's definitely a place for it; but just not sure it should have been the final note of the conference. The opening keynote on Friday by contrast was uplifting and inspiring, this one not so much.
Insightful talk - some really great slides and stats describing user experiences.
Good to mention the risks and how to manage them. Some developers are all too keen to require a package without checking how actively it's developed, what license (if any it has), etc.
