n an increasingly connected world, APIs are key to great tools and effective workflows. What is better than an API? A webhook of course! Webhooks are a key building block of a modern application, allowing systems to exchange data in response to events. This session gives examples of webhooks currently in use ""in the wild"", and examines both when a webhook is useful and the internal design and structuring of webhook payloads. We'll discuss how to work with webhooks in a scalable way regardless of technology stack; how to recieve and process incoming webhooks from an external system and how to design and publish your own for use by partners or consumers. Recommended for anyone wanting to teach their applications to play nicely with others.

Great talk thanks, lots of stuff to think about

Ross Cooper at 13:25 on 15 Feb 2018

Great talk and covered things I hadn't even thought of when a webhook enabled system.
HTTP 200 OK :)

I’ve seen your talk before, but I still learned something. And it’s great that you share your tips and favorite tools:-)
You are a great speaker!

Brilliantly well presented, engaging. Great use of videos for the demos, allowing plenty of time to talk about what was being shown without the distraction of having to do it.

The talk was well paced and Lorna's passion for this area was really inspiring.

Excellent - and I love the rabbit pauses ;-)

A well-balanced and interesting talk. Webhooks seem simple and obvious but they have hidden depth which Lorna walked us through clearly and easily

Outstanding talk, really interesting talk, great humour and jam-packed full of great information!!

Super presentation from a quality speaker. As always some awesome tools to take forward into every day development.

Some good points and interesting insights. Confident delivery, but a little rambly

Excellent! Learnt so much, and I love your presentation style, really easy to listen to. Gonna have to look into that FaaS stuff too, that looked intriguing.

Lorna gave a great talk on webhooks. Her explanations were very clear, the examples pertinent, and her passion for the subject was great. Good presentation and well worth the time attending.

Well delivered informative talk, loved the bunnies

Chris Sherry at 17:56 on 17 Feb 2018

The talk was well paced - not too fast (the bunny breaks helped) and she talked with great enthusiasm and was light hearted throughout. I feel that Lorna could take the even driest of talk topics and engage me in it.

I would say however that I did get lost a little in knowing what the difference is between a HTTP post request and a webhook is. (Something I feel silly for not getting or already having an understanding of). A quick google mid-talk helped the penny drop and I was back on board. I'm fairly sure this was just me not understanding something but I thought I'd flag it as it was the only thing I could find fault with. Perhaps a more visual representation of webhooks as a 'reverse' api would help where I didn't catch on from Lorna's explanation.

Really enjoyed the talk, barely knew what a webhook was before this talk but understanding that it's just a HTTP POST going from the server to client helped clear it up a lot. Only thing I'd change is having photos of puppies instead of rabbits.
