well thought out introduction to composer and the potential to clean up a repo

fun talk, if sometimes bizarre. fractal demos were gorgeous, though the presentation was choppy and could be streamlined (3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 7 would be more meaningful than skipping all around, in some cases working backwards), and definitely left an impact of the potential in the future of PHP.

It was good for my first successful experience with phpUnit. A little fast but I'm glad that he had the git repositories so that I could still follow along and revisit it at home.

Not as PHP detailed as I was hoping for, but it gave me a great inside.

Great overview!

Great demo. I was familiar with many of the demonstrated risks but seeing the exploits in action really drives it home and motivates me to make sure we haven't accidentally left ourselves open to similar exploits.

Very good. He not only went through the list but gave helpful background info and also shared opinions with reasons about where he disagreed with certain aspects of the list. Got several takeaways to improve the security of our sites.

I learned a lot about new features that we can definitely take advantage of and improve the quality of our coding - especially the stuff about type hinting.

I found this talk to be profoundly impactful and inspirational, with a focus on both the promises and the risks of increasing technology, within the historical context of the programming community and its values. I believe Samantha used the phrase "ethics of engineering," but I believe it would be more accurate to use a phrase like "digital justice," as she encouraged us to look beyond merely a personal ethic and attention to security in our individual programming, and to consider the role we can play as a community to address the serious privacy, financial, health, and other risks that insecure or unethical technologies pose to humanity, and to ensure that the positive and open values that inspired our community continue to improve the world.
