It was nice to find out about the different challenges faced when trying to get 1000's requests per second, and possible solutions.
I found it odd that they didn't move to a NoSQL solution but it was interesting to see the thinking behind some of the decisions made.

Would have been interested in more detailed Framework specific examples, and how certain frameworks have event listener capabilities in their core functionality.

Full disclosure, I'm on the team that John has just moved on from and he introduced User Stories to us, but even so there were things that I picked up and I think my stories will be better for going along. Great talk.

A lot of good information here, will be giving App Engine a try! I can understand the Google advertisement criticism, but Ian clearly highlighted the pitfalls/work arounds required from a PHP perspective.
Talk was well presented and split room worked well.
Personally I took little away from it and felt the content was overly simplistic, save a few slides.
