Great content and great delivery
Great time. Easy to follow along, great foundation in Laravel.
A great into workshop on browser testing using cool new tools. Very well thought out and presented.
A nice talk on what looks like cool new dev tools. I had been curious about Web Components and so was glad to see this topic at the conference.
This was a very polished and entertaining presentation. It has convinced me that xdebug might not be impossible to run in my development environment.
Derek's talk was a comprehensive overview of using Puppeteer, Mocha and Chai to test how your website/app renders in the browser and included code samples for testing javascript and css changes. I plan on using some of these concepts to automate updates made to responsive HTML for clients as well as for troubleshooting some web scraping scripts that we use.
This talk gave me a better understanding of SOLID and also a much clearer grasp of the distinction between Inversion of Dependency and Dependency Injection and how those principles interact. I also found the discussion of anti-patterns helpful, there are some gotchas there that I've run into already.
I agree with Ted that the construction analogy is not the most helpful one for understanding the role of an "Architect" in creating software, and he raised some good discussion points about the nature of the job of an architect as something distinct from system analysts, project managers and team leaders. It gave me a lot to think about how we approach building software in our shop.
As a first time attendee at PHPWorld, this talk introduced me to a lot of organizations (NomadPHP, PHP Mentoring) and methods for getting involved in the community that I was not previously aware of. I'm now looking for a local user group in my area that I can get more involved in.
Very practical advice for managers and leads. Really good talk.
