I found that there was a bit too much time spent on focussing on the videos Mel created, and perhaps there could be more data to back up the micro experience concept.
Nevertheless, it was a good talk from a passionate speaker - and the slides were gorgeous!
Great talk. Such profession. Wow.
I would have liked there to be more discussion about why you would want to use microservices. It was a very interesting talk, though.
While I would have liked to see more show around the tools used by Wayfair, the detailed explanations of what the tools did and why they were built was fantastic.
Queues are a powerful tool for scaling web apps, so being able to learn how they're easily integrated into PHP applications (and seeing example implementations from a live application) was hugely applicable. Understanding the trade-offs required to add a queue for record keeping (i.e. offloading database write operations to an asynchronous queue) is a must for anyone looking to use these techniques! I was pleased to see Sandy cover these trade-offs directly rather than just gloss over them as I've seen many other presenters do.
Scoring low because while this was an OK review of related DevOps and pros/cons, that is not what the abstract promised. There was no exploration of using PHP. There was no "how do you write one in PHP". An example micro-service was not built during the talk. All in all I did not get what was promised in the talk. Its as though the talk were created without looking at the abstract.
Oscar is knowledgeable and willingly shared his experience albeit spoken quickly
Loved hearing the pros and cons of various different approaches. My only suggestion would be to make the example diagram more technical and detailed, so people could easily see where each different solution might fit into the puzzle.
Well organized, stuffed to the brim with awesome information, and clearly communicated. The example for the early return (add 3 ints) seemed a little contrived due to the glaring lack of &&'s, could potentially use a better example for that point specifically. Overall, I loved the talk...I want a cheat sheet of all the principles/points to tape to my monitor...
