Very good talk on the solutions for Etsy scaling from a simple solution to a more complex queue solution
A really engaging and clear presentation of the underlying processes that occur during PHP execution. I really enjoyed this. Thanks Davey!
It's really good to see such energy and enthusiasm from a developer after 20 years in the same project domain. A very entertaining and interesting talk, and the candy for people asking questions went down a treat.
Loved your direct presentation style and your dry sense of humour. Also you seem to know a thing or two about databases. ;-) Great talk! Thanks for making the trek down under.
Very intellectual talk, however it was hard for me to see what i could take away from the talk
Great talk. Always good to learn more about the language and how it all works 'under the hood'. Found the VLD illustrations to be of much help and a nice range of examples were covered to give a thorough understanding. Would be good to get some more information on performance factors not directly linked to tokens (e.g. 'hello' and "hello" compiles the same opcodes BUT time is lost checking "hello" for variables. Would be good to get some examples where the opcodes might be the same but the steps to determine this may still require different amounts of overhead - if that makes sense/is written correctly...)
As someone who hasn't worked much in this area, I found it very helpful. It was good that it covered a range of different frameworks and included code demos that actually demonstrated how they behave at runtime.
Always good to sit in a room and have a discussion about best practices with regards to writing code. Sometimes the best solution isn't always the most economically viable and standards can warp when you don't have clear direction. It was good to get some advice/knowledge on this subject from someone who had taken the time to put this together. Wish there were more talks out there on this subject (or maybe I need to look harder).
Found this talk particularly interesting. Although the otherwise awesome demonstration didn't quite come together in the end, it was clear that a lot of time had been put into the content of the talk. Very engaging presentation with its live demo, humour and interesting topic. It is always good to learn about things that aren't always discussed openly.
Interesting talk, but they're was a bit too much flicking between slides at some points, which was a little off-putting.
