Extremely useful, very clear and well structured, really well delivered. Left me really wanting to give object callisthenics a go. Incidentally, the talk also went really well with Nicola Aitken's talk on naming conventions.
Really interesting to hear about working at enormous scales. However, the pace was too fast for me and the scale of the software and infrastructure being discussed simply wasn't relevant to my own much smaller scale work. So many tools were introduced that I found it difficult to know what might be useful for me. That said, I will be putting more effort into error logging in future!
Lots of fun, lots of new things to learn, really good explanation of each one. Sometimes difficult to see the practical application, but you never know when they might come in handy.
Enthusiastic and confident, easy to follow, great pace and delivery. Personally, I could have used a little more structure to the talk, especially around the different ways of storing and toggling flags.
Informative, important, and well delivered. Like accessibility, it's great to see real life examples and hear personal experience so it can't be dismissed as a theoretical issue. Left the talk with practical ideas for improving my work, so positive all round.
Best talk of the day for me. Loved the comparison with prose and and the simple, practical, why-didn't-I-think-of-that-before rules for good names. I've come away with a good reading list and sudden urge to rewrite all my code.
Good talk, well delivered, and with thought-provoking points. I really like the use of Maslow's pyramid of needs and the practical application of them. As with a lot of conference talks, it sometimes felt aimed at very large organisations more than (much!) smaller agencies or freelancers.
Might have been a little long, but introduced the day well, explained everything clearly, and (I think) made everyone feel welcome. Good to hear about the code of conduct up front.
This was a great talk, really enjoyed the content and the structure, made it very easy to follow the story and come to the same conclusions.
The speaker spoke clearly and in a good pace, overcoming nerves and settling into the talk quickly and seemed comfortable on stage by the end. As a first time speaker this was truly an amazing job and conquering more stages will improve this quickly.
Nicola, thanks for taking the leap to come share this with us, I hope to see you at more events sharing more interesting thoughts.
Was a little bit long but thats kind of a given with the welcome, housekeeping etc. But the passionate, heartfelt message from Lorna really helped set the tone of what this new PHPYorkshire event was all about and it was great.
