Relied a bit heavily on audience participation. Good coverage of concepts and terminology. Ran short, needs more material. Additional coverage of applications and appropriate situations for using or switching to each normal form and related performance effects and implications would be good. Look to Jay Pipes' older presentations "Join Fu" and "Legend of Drunken Query Master" at http://www.joinfu.com for inspiration on presentation of material.
Very useful, but why not to incorporate some of the described techniques into ZF itself? It's easy to edit ZF classes but most people who use SVN probably use svn::externals to incorporate ZF and it can be just impossible to edit ZF classes. Good speech anyway.
PS: please louder next time, accoustic is not very good in this room
I enjoyed the way Jason has given this live demo on TDD and liked the beer prizes with the content quizzes.
Also nice to see that SimpleTest works the same way as PHPUnit, makes it easy to switch from one to the other.
Maybe a little too much entry level for people already writing unit tests but not yet in a TDD way, but still a great session. Might want to indicate this in the abstract.
Great introduction to the basics of Git. I wish there would have been more time so that you could have made it through the "advanced beginner" stuff regarding branches/merging/etc. I use Git a little in my daily work, but have barely scratched the surface.
I learned more about the basics in this, and would like to see a longer tutorial on beginning/intermediate Git in the future.
Really good introduction. what about more advanced stuff and real word problems such as integration with SVN, how to replace svn externals, etc. Hope you will cover this in your next talk. Thanks!
Good presentation to give an introduction on several different design patterns. Definitely gave me more information on some patterns that I have toyed with and the desire to explore them more deeply.
For a long block, I would have hoped for more in-depth details about different design patterns, but overall the talk was a good introduction.
as expected, this presentation was promotion to the book, but non the less a good talk given by Ivo.
And it summarizes the book very well, with good examples on what PaaS, IaaS and SaaS is all about.
Great session Elizabeth. Are the slides up?
Heavy on the "in the cloud", but fairly light on the "php development". Very good overview both of what "the cloud" is, what's available (products, services). The examples of actually doing stuff with PHP were awesome, eyeopening, and helpful. Would like to see a LOT more of that, and less of the "cloud 101" stuff.
Everything johnkary complained about is what I loved about this talk. Having not had an opportunity to interact with unit tests or test driven development up to now, I finally feel like I understand how it works. Being able to code along with Jason made it even better.
Quite possibly my favourite talk so far.
