Talk comments

Good overview from which to spring board later. And... Steve provided a link to his slides up front. Thanks.

As an aside, his daughter is going to have a very interesting time growing up. Great vocal effects.

Great speaker and great talk. I really appreciate Cal not being afraid to represent who he is who he ultimately serves, makes for a much more authentic and impactful talk. Thanks Cal!

Great talk. This talk was packed full of real life examples and great advice from thing Cal has experienced over his career. Thank for taking time to put this together and sharing it with all of us!

I walked in with an extremely limited knowledge of machine learning and left with enough information to get started. Damien was very animated and kept things moving along at a good pace. The examples were good and easy to follow. The slideshare french subdomain didn't work for me, but I did find the slides here: http://www.slideshare.net/dseguy/machine-learning-in-php-62394863

Nice to see a presentation on such a challenging topic. I came in only with the knowledge that monads were somehow related to functional programming. Throughout the first part of the talk, I wasn't sure what was going on and how it related to monads, so I struggled to keep up. It would have helped me if the talk had started with a little more of an idea of what monads are, like some of the examples given in the end with jQuery selections and such. As it was presented, I wasn't sure what parts of the sample code being presented were important to focus on.

This is a timely and tough decision for both new and established code bases. There's a lot of hype for PHP7, lots of it deserved, but this talk delivered realism from the trenches to understand how to move forward. Even if you're small and starting something new, you can be bit when you're deep into a project and you realize the extension you need isn't yet supported.
Thanks!

Always love Samantha Quiñones keynotes. Excellent presenter and great insight into the internet at large. Key coming back!!

Forgot to add... the conversation after the "talk" was actually better than the presetation. Might just do this as a open spaces thing if it is going to be part of the conference in the future.

If you need to push php performance at the individual algorithm level, this was a good talk. Most people aren't going to be doing this level of optimization, though. I did like the comment about "premature optimization being the root of all evil" but don't think the presenter did a great job at answering that. Basically, I feel like this was a good talk about optimization but didn't really go into why you would care about doing it.
