Great workshop. Andy had us break up into groups and convert a physical system of brewing beer into a sequence of object oriented commands. We drew it out with pen and paper and It really helped my overall process when naming my objects, commands and events. Some conference attendees I spoke with were a little scared off of this workshop because of their unfamiliarity with the term "Domain-Driven". But Andy explained the concept very well and in an easy to understand manner with a combination of props and slides. It was a great way to end the conference and I highly recommend this workshop to anyone new to domain driven design or even someone that wants to brush up on some fundamentals.
Wonderful talk! Hands on either the material. I have gained more insight into how to test in PHP.
Excellent talk. I really liked how the talk was designed to be interactive. I like that the class focused on practical tools and stayed away from too much theory, as that's exactly what I was hoping for. He did mention competing viewpoints a few times to let people know the areas to research if they were interested, which I also found helpful.
I took a few things away from this talk that I can apply to my dev process immediately, which I'm very excited about.
I'm hoping I can comment without rating because I blame myself for not reading the abstract prior to attending. I wish the title had included Symfony in it! This talk was way too specific for a particular tool set, and as someone not using that exactly infrastructure, I just couldn't follow along. Talk was very heavy on showing config files etc.
I really enjoyed this talk. As someone with basically zero experience in Elastic Search, I felt like he did a great job covering the basics, while also exhibiting how powerful a tool it is. One of the highlights of the conference for me.
The talk was too high-level for me, focusing on broad categories like "trust" and "discomfort". The talk also included some "inspiring stories" of good managers, but those people were totally outside of the industry and I didn't feel their stories added much value, particularly given the short time-frame of the talk.
I was hoping for some very specific pointers about managing people in tech. And while I know that the high-level concepts transcend industry, a talk that was geared towards tech management would have been a better fit for this conference, in my opinion.
Excellent talk. Presented in a clear manner with good examples.
Lots of great stuff I'll be immediately using in my code.
Jen is a natural teacher, and presenter. So glad I decided to take this workshop, and thanks to the organizers, for offering it at the conference.
First of all, I give Nara all the credit in the world for fighting her fears and getting up on stage in front of so many. It was obvious she was fairly nervous and it was a struggle for her to be up there. That said, I feel she lacked the energy needed to kick off a conference of this magnitude. The opening keynote (in my opinion) should get the conference participants excited and enthused about the upcoming events. The only time she seemed energized was at the very end when she stated that she is excited because her talk is concluding. It's just not how a large event should get under way. Just my constructive criticism.
