really great talk. it wasn't new info for me, but he still had me engaged and did clarify some tricky details.
loved this presentation. didn't even feel like an intro talk, felt like a really great tutorial filling in important details of confusing parts of git.
it was a decent talk but it's kind of a shame to be so specific to paypal (yeah, i know he works there). a nod to other options in gaming monetization would have been nice.
Great talk. Ilia went through the entire stack. Even looking at part that are usually taken for granted.
I want to like this talk: the topic is good, the speaker knows his stuff, he's written a cool library...
Unfortunately, I think the presentation itself needs some work. There's no real introduction, compelling use cases or comparisons to other databases. The main problem though was that most of the presentation was copying and pasting into consoles to demonstrate querying. This could've all been done better as just simple slides! Switching between windows and terminals, restarting services, etc, this all feels really slow when sitting in the audience.
Honestly, I would rework this to stay on the slides more and try to add real narrative to the presentation. Afterwards, I would start submitting it to more conferences and user groups again because the speaker has potential and the topic is great. It just needs some more work and maybe a little more fire.
Just my 2 cents. :)
@ANONYMOUS,
Thanks for the honest feedback. I'll definitely make the appropriate changes so as to make it more clear that we'll be talking heavily about a tool. That being said, I may actually make this talk less tool specific in the future. Thanks, that's really helpful and thanks for the kind words otherwise :)
Fantastic talk! Enjoyably brisk, lots of great info.
The only thing that might improve it is adding more quick rules or metrics for debugging issues, especially at the server/OS level. Reference numbers especially might be helpful.
Great talk, some of the best content I've seen at the conference. Clear, well done explanations. The beginning of the talk could be shortened and come to the point a bit faster. Also, the speaker digressed with the audience a little too much at times.
great overview. only thing i missed was more coverage of web sockets. that's clearly one of the more exciting things to happen to this space and the coverage in this talk felt too brief for what it deserved. but i also understand this wasn't really intended as an in-depth kind of talk. enjoyed it!
