Very insightful! The talk of Michiel also was very closely related to my current employment and application we work on. Based on this talk i'll even invite Michiel to talk or perhaps consult at our office.
Interesting insights.
However you were talking a bit fast, and it also felt a bit all over the place. Switching from one sub-topic to another at an incredible pace. I would advise to take a longer slot next time and just take a bit more time so slow your speaking and perhaps adding some smoother transitions between sub-topics.
The presentation was clear, but it felt like the trainee lacked preparation.
The experiments itself were very similar to the example project tutorial which was included in the neo4j download itself.
I would've loved a bit more in depth in advanced Cypher queries and optimization.
Some things that could be improved: explain the theory (as it states in the abstract); the current talk was more like "we have an SVM implementation, I put things in it, I get things out of it, I did machine learning". From the talk, it was not clear how SVM's even worked/how you could implement them, which was exactly what I was expecting after reading the abstract. It was clear, however, how you could use them.
The speaker seemed to simplify the process too much or did not have a deep understanding of the subject matter himself.
Great workshop, though I did miss the testing part of an event sourced system.
I'm not sure if 3 hours for a basic workshop would be enough to introduce testing so I won't base the rating on that =).
Having tests for the event handlers and projectors will probably be a bit too complicated, but I do think that one of the big benefits of event sourcing is that your aggregates are really easy to test.
Perhaps for a next workshop you could give the participants some initial tests and let them decide on whether they want to work with the tests.
All in all a great workshop to get into the basics of CQRS and Event Sourcing.
It was a really nice talk. Entertaining and informative. What maybe could be improved is explaining more what you learnt from analyzing your own thought process: what are your personal pitfalls/strengths and at what point did you detect them as such. I do plan to read one of the 'thinking' books you advised to read, so your talk definitely had impact :)
Great presentation and a very original idea to connect cats to PHP!
But due the abundance of cats the presentation lacked a bit of technical insight ;)
The content of the talk was too basic. The title implied a some more advanced topics, but spending 20 minutes on SQL injection is more of an entry level. The speaker did have a very clear presentation style.
It was quite a nice talk, also quite informative. However, the abstract of the talk did not mention 'React', and for people who already had been to another React introduction talk, this was a bit annoying.
As a senior dev it really gave me some good tips and insights on progressing to tech team lead. Good relaxed speaker being able to clearly convey the info.
