UX process presented was solid, and the content was well-prepared, but I couldn't help but find myself being slightly bored at times.

Playful and entertaining while still providing very useful information. It was obvious just how long Terry has been in this industry. Liked that he talked about one of PHPs main benefits being its great expressiveness.

Great talk....lots of good info that I found a ton of value in. Lots of low hanging fruit that will allow us to get more performance out of our PHP applications.

This was pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about building a web services with PHP. Here heartbeat idea is one that I will definitely implement.

Although I am not a framework user, Joël did a good job of explainin Lithium. He was also frank and honest about what frameworks are good for and what they are not so good at doing. I appreciate honesty.

on Lithium

A bit of the old and a bit of the new. It would get a 5 if he did not bash my beloved Gentoo. =)

Very unique format from Ed. Lots of good details about the story behind the app.

A very honest presentation about a failed effort and trying to examine what happened. As soon as the video is online, I am going to highly recommend it to some people involved in community efforts who are making similarly long term major changes to established projects.

I don't agree with some of what he presented - and it's in that really positive way where he presents his logic and it's absolutely sound. If anybody implements exactly what he said, they are going to have a great site. The best thing is that he acknowledged this and mentioned the other options and explained exactly what trade offs they entail and why he chose his best practices. It was very practical and useful for the real world. Often people obsessed with optimizing systems don't recognize time and budget concerns and how over-optimizing can cause problems. Helgi gave practical, well reasoned and well explained techniques. Perfect.

The best thing is that this was a fairly comprehensive overview of the various techniques and formats in use. When most of us develop, we find something that works and has support and go with it. When that happens, we sometimes don't look back at the landscape and see what else is going on (as we've already found what works for us). I never really have needed SOAP, for example, so I knew only a little about it. By presenting and contrasting it with the technologies I do use (including code examples), it makes it much more clear what "that thing they use over there" is, and what the strengths and weaknesses are. A well presented overview of the subject, sprinkled with specific examples.
