Interesting presentation on what is currently being taught in at De Montfort Uni these days. I have to disagree with some of the comments about not preparing students for life in the real world ... I think the material being taught will serve as a good basis that can easily be extended on when students do move into the real world.
Would have liked to see a bit about Dependency Injection and Inversion of Control but I suppose these could be quite difficult to teach to those unfamiliar with patterns and best practice concepts.
Great approach to presenting. The content was engaging, to the point and interesting with some good analogies being used.
So you know, you got a well-respected score of 8 on the lingo bingo game ;)
Most of the stuff in this presentation was stuff I already knew. I do a fair bit from the command line anyway, but I came to see if there was anything I'd missed. Anything I didn't know, or ways I could improve my own working practices. This presentation achieved just that purpose. I learned new insights that I never knew existed, and will certainly help me change and optimise the way I work with the CLI in the future.
Hopefully someone else also learned the importance of opening php tags, even in directly-executable PHP files with a shebang!
Awesome presentation. Thijs put on a great talk, very informative. Highly recommended, and would definately come again.
Very informative introduction to ZF2. I get the feeling I'll be making a lot of use of that EventManager, with probably a dependency on the DI at some point in the future too!
Excellent presentation. Exactly what I was looking for out of this talk.
Well done!
Brilliant, had a blast!
A highly interesting presentation and has I known more about extensions a few years back I could have used them to improve a couple of the system I have worked on 10 fold.
Despite the content of the talk not being relevant to me I enjoyed hearing about how you overcame a problem and the complications along the way. A great effort for your fist talk as well!
Obviously it was a shame about the confusion over time but I would have rather see the full hour talk than a condensed half hour one. I'll certainly be using the slides as a reference when I start to use git and it was good to hear about git-svn and the migration tool as moving away from SVN will take some doing, especially at work.
This talk didn't really turn out to be what I expected but it was an interesting case study and provided a good insight into the complications of clients managing their own content. It was also nice to see a more advanced application sit over the top of Wordpress, something I'd like to experiment with.
One of the best parts of the conference from a discussion perspective. Agreed that International Drinking Rules or something similar should have been applied ;)
