Microservices, along with Progressive Web Applications and Decoupling are all on the cards for the future, so this talk was interesting as it served to discuss one of the most common difficulties most people will face - and that is the transition from legacy systems/platforms to a newer, and smarter, way of doing things.
I enjoyed Gareth's talk as it was based on a real world scenario and he guided us quite well through the transition from a monolithic and antiquated system, to one that scales exceptionally well, is far easier to maintain, suffers far less from normal downtime issues, is cost effective, and overall more efficient to run.
Exciting times ahead for developers!
Thanks for the great talk Gareth.
I think that in this day and age, we are definitely moving towards a more collaborative approach to just about everything in business as every department is a stakeholder in most projects and so learning to play ball as a team is crucial.
Ben did well to highlight some of the essential components such as effective communication in moving towards a more successful outcome, both as an individual and as a company.
I also appreciated the mentions of the good books and will most certainly consider buying them. When I might find to read them may be a different story - #TheDevLife :D
Really cool talk. Great to see the cost side of being an OSS Maintainer. Really appreciated :)
Hope you have an awesome holiday while you're here ✈
Awesome talk, really in depth analysis delivered in a really easy way to understand and really well formatted :)
?
Interesting talk. I would have liked to see more points up on the presentation to follow.
Awesome talk, was great to listen to how such a big project like Composer was build and how relatable the issues they have faced.
Fun talk. Speaker has great knowledge and I will apply some of these ideas.
WTF is the AST? now I know ... and now I can capture your code and inject my code to make your code my code .. MWUAHAHAHA
Enjoyed the insight in just how to treat those you work with be they co workers, management, etc. Thanks Ben
In some weird and twisted way it is always good to know that other developers suffer. No, wait, that doesn't sound right!
What I meant to say is that Jordi highlighted one of the core issues that many developers, and development teams, face - and that is the issue of the long and arduous journey that we sometimes have to take before an application is born. He took us on an interesting journey to document just that in a way that the tensions of the project were palpable in the auditorium.
A lot of wise words of wisdom and we thank you for sharing with us!
