I was really suprised by the number of positive comments on this talk.
To be honest, this was the weakest talk of the conference. The content was less about getting the project out the door and more like "running a mom and pop webshop in a nutshell". That may be relevant to a significant chunk of Zend conference goers, but I wish it would have been made more clear in the title/description before I wasted that hour.
Rob was definitely a well spoken, likeable speaker with concise, organized slides. He was a knowledgeable guy that I would listen to again if it was a more focused topic.
Some of the lowest points of the show include:
When asked what some of his favorite project management tools were, he responded "I just use MS Excel".
Also, he has slides dedicated to the formation of project related emails.
At least 20 people walked out of this talk early. I felt bad for the guy and held out until the Q&A section.
I agree with "ANONYMOUS", this should have been a keynote. Ilia definitely earned several fans.
Not very useful as such, but great entertainment and a brilliant way to end the conference!
Pretty interesting stuff! If only I could have watched this talk 4 years ago :)
Very good "bread and butter" talk :)
Picked up quite a few tips and tricks with memcache I didn't know about and will help me a lot!
Way too much information for the hour time slot, I am defintely a dojo enthuiast by was a little turned off by the presentation, I'm sure dojo newbies just left scratching their noodle
The presenter is extremely knowledgeable but needed a full day or 2, or 3, or 4 with the amount of material. A quick run through of two or three of the core dojo function uses would have sufficed and been easier to digest.
Great information just extremely rushed, slides jammed pack with examples that show all of the great things dojo has to offer.
in agreement with jeremykendall, too political for my taste and the statement "we need more minorities in open source"???
She definitely has some points to be thought over, but really needs to present them in a less obtrusive manner.
Lots of information presented at a fast pace but easy to digest, Ilia speaks very clearly and has extensive knowledge (very evident), another session that could have held me for a day or two. One of the best this year in my mind.
The "output_buffering" buffering setting is helpful (especially when set a high value) when you are sending fair quantity of large PHP generated pages to the user.
"SQL Caching" could mean many different things, such as sql de-normalization for reporting purposes, etc... However what I was referring to was storage of SQL results in memory via memcache or apc, so that database does not need to be queried every single time.
