Again, another strong talk from Neal. I expect to see Neal at lots more conferences very soon!!!
A really strong talk. I found it really interesting to hear about how data consolidation can be tackled in PHP. I think there are probably three 'other' talks within this talk trying to get out - what can be done with the data, a 'deep dive' into data consolidation (just using one process for example), and 'Laravel collection optimisation. Either way, a very interesting and strong talk with relevance to some of the things we're doing at work.
Very relatable with real-world solutions to real-world problems. 'Simplifying' the problems I don't think detracted from this talk at all, it was still really valuable with great little references and bits of humour injected in
I think alot of my struggles with this talk are a result of my own shortcomings rather than this talk. Event Sourcing is a huge topic, probably way too much to cover in a 45 minute talk. As such I found some parts of it hard to follow, and while I can think of some use cases within our application, I still don't feel I know where to start. That said, Dries clearly knows his stuff, he's an expert on the subject for sure, and I need to try harder to get to grips with it :-)
The cleanest, slickest live-coding demo I've ever seen at a conference.
💥. Neal is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and charismatic speaker, who knocked this out of the park. My 'talk of the conference'.
In the beginning, I wasn't expecting too much while reading the title. I thought it will be quite basic. But it turned out Joe did a great job with interacting with the audience and it was so much fun. Thanks!
Webhooks is one of those subjects that developers can fall into the trap of thinking is 'easy' or there isn't much too it. Lorna shakes those assumptions up, and shows how there is way more to webhooks than a simple POST request! I've seen variations of Lorna's 'Webhooks' talk a few times, and I still find it a great watch each time.
Now, the second time I watched Neal, It felt easier to me following him speaking. He was fast again but I didn't had any problems anymore :-) I found this talk super interesting and I had a lot of fun.
A great way to wrap up the conference. The live demo was very slick, and Joe presented really well. I learned afterwards that this was Joe's first conference talk - would never have guessed it in a million years, it felt like he'd being doing this for ages!
