Talk comments

Jeremy has an inate ability to command audience attention and this makes him a good speaker. However, I felt that this talk dived straight into the detail without much background. I've not really used PEAR before, didn't know anything about PEAR libraries, channels or other aspects that were covered in this talk, and therefore felt a bit left behind.

I don't however feel that this was a problem with the talk, more the time limit.

The talk was slick, seemed well rehearsed and Jeremy was both knowledgable and passionate about the subject.

Well presented talk with good code practices discussed, opinions offered not dictated which is appreciated. There was a good atmosphere in the overcrowded room. Could have done with a few dozen more slides though, I got the feeling there weren't enough :P

Company = awesome. Nice to see the speakers before their meal and after their meal, although it would be nice for them to just be finished by 8pm.

Location it was top spot BUT I want a private room next year. It was annoying to have people walking through to find the toilets / just walking walking through because they can and gate crashers. It meant that someone had to keep an eye on the wii equipment at all times and just be vigilant about it. And somewhere where the prices ain't so dear.

Music was good in the venue, but too loud. It was cool when we could control the music ourselves ( ie like last year) It might be an idea to look further afield as it gives delegates a chance to walk around Manchester. ( just an idea to note down and see what delegates think. )

I know i rather go for somewhere cheap and private room than close to the hotel. :P

As an ex-skater the start of this talk really connected with me and I felt very much engaged throughout.

Jon has some very good observations on what people are doing wrong. I'd have loved to see more examples though to drive this home to the audience. I probably make some mistakes that he'd pick up on, but the underlying messages that he was trying to get across are ones that people should pay attention to.

Very good confident speaker, enjoyable talk with good points well made. I appreciated the idea of using relevant good practices without feeling the need to stick to a particular ideology. There was an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the room!

This was a great experience and helped me get a better overall understanding. I am hoping to be able to put some of it into practice and learn more as I go, The examples will come in really handy as well so I can just have a good play about with the various services and get into it anew.

My only non-positive view was that the session went quite quickly and I struggled in places, however that said I just need to do my homework and in hindsight never spoke out to slow parts down. I also don't think there is any other way to get so much of value into a small window so a very positive overall.

Many thanks and keep up the good work.

Well delivered recapitulation of the most important security rules. Again, the whole day could be easily spent on going into more details but I liked that Paul just picked the ones he believed were the most important and only focused on them which prevented turning the talk into a fast forward slideshow.

Thanks Mike, I totally agree - I'll make sure I correct the mistakes (SQL query and the Given statement). Thanks for taking the time to comment :)

Really interesting keynote. Loved the skateboarding reference and the evolution of programming for the web. Wonderful start to the conference.
