There were some great insights in this talk - I've heard the "no else" mantra before and wondered what particular flavour of crazy it was, but this was very well illustrated and I'm now really inclined to try out some object calisthenics.
However, it would have been good to have a talk that either focussed on being a closing session or focussed on object calisthenics - as this aimed to do both it kind of fell short.
A good introduction to the changes in structure and philosophy with Drupal 8. It was great to see a window being opened on the community by someone so active within it, and the speaker did an excellent appraisal of some of the current challenges facing the community at this time. The slides were and delivery were both clear and relaxed.
I think this talk would benefit from more consideration over its structure - in places it came across as a slightly disjointed series of points but I don't think addressing this would take much work.
I was sold at hats. Whoever had this idea - hats off. Or maybe not.
As the abstract promised, by the end I felt well equipped to work with OAuth2, a personal first! Pacing was great for a technical topic, starting with simple focussed examples and slowly building complexity. The only point where I was lost was understanding why you can switch to in memory storage when using JWTs rather than standard tokens, but by question time my brain had caught up, so possibly there is room to expand on that explanation when the concept is introduced. Maybe you did and I missed it!
This talk was enjoyable, instructive and very well structured - the device of suggesting a set of names, and then eliminating them one by one after introducing individual pieces of good practice worked excellently. The slides were excellent - I suggest lingering slightly longer on the misappropriated quotes - it was difficult to actually read them before you moved on. The delivery was slightly rushed, but due to the topic being relatively soft this in no way caused it to become difficult to follow or understand. This could be a problem with a more technical topic.
I've seen many middleware talks before without really getting it. After watching this talk everything clicked. The slides were legible and focussed to the specific point being made at all times. The delivery was relaxed and clear, well paced and the emphasis on quality and maintability actually helped illustrate the middleware concepts rather than distract from them. I can't think of a single suggestion to improve this talk.
Set the tone for the day really well
Badges & bags handed out quickly, never even saw a queue, appreciate coffee being available & a nice space to socialise whilst waiting for the day to kick off.
Hard subject with a great speaker !
Improvable Probably using some git screenshots and giving a little general overview could be helpful to involve all level of odience !!!
