I agree with earlier commentators that this talk does not really cover PHPillow. It was nonetheless a great introduction for those who do not know about CouchDB at all.
I personally would have liked to see a more practical approach to the use of CouchDB, in specific with regards to the querying for information and best practices in using CouchDB.
Juliette was able to take me by surprise with her unconventional or perhaps even 'retro' style of presenting. Though in my opinion this style does not suit all talks, she used it to add the right amount of flavor to her presentation.
Unfortunately this, and the complexity of the matter, also meant I had trouble at times to follow the structure and understand the information provided.
This talk is certainly not for those who are new to RegEx's but for those who have used them it will certainly help you in your future RegExp writing.
Excellent presentation. In contrary to many sources of information about dependency injection it clearly demonstrates how DI and DI containers can improve the way we work with code. Despite its seemingly simple implementation.
I must concur with previous statements that the purple (red?) text was not readable, even from a close distance.
Additionally the piece of code where it was showing a lamba in a another closure being used as callback (last step in creating the DI Container), I could not immediately spot how it should work due to its complexity (though I did figure it out whilst the slide was shown).
Nonetheless: great presentation!
Despite some hick-ups with the audio the keynote was able to provide a good overview about the state of the PHP ecology and some of its perceptions.
The slides and pictures on them are well done and match the atmosphere of the keynote, although the picture used with the documentation team doesn't match the documentation team themselves.
The talk opened really well, David was able to capture my attention at minute one with the way he started out.
Unfortunately the effect did not last the entire talk, even though the content was relevant and well written.
All in all, great talk nonetheless!
A definite must see and must hear!
If you are a developer and, by chance, your manager has not yet seen this: let him (a.k.a. make him).
The contents of this talk are actual and relevant to many projects out there. I can only conclude that managers (and higher) should heed the advices given.
An interesting opening keynote, but at some point I wasn't really focused anymore. I would mainly say this was because I wasn't yet fully awake and I think that towards the end the talk became a bit to long.
Besides all that I think the talk was well written and the slides were good. I liked the humor.
Good talk!
I really enjoyed this talk. Ofcourse this wasn't the first time for Cal to stand for an audience. His talk was spot on. With a lot of examples from real life experience were very helpfull to understand some thing a lot better.
This talk was really ment to get people thinking about the subject and I think you managed to do this! I really will keep the advice and tips you gave in mind!
Looking forward to more stuff Cal!
I never really had ever heard of couchDB. So I found the subject really interesting. Since the talk was a bit to technical for me I didn't understand everything of it, but it got me excited to get more info on it.
Overall a good talk, but maybe a bit to advanced for people who aren't known to this subject.
Second time I see this talk, and it became better since the last time I saw it. Well done, bringing information like this in a way that is easy to understand.
